GivingTuesday Ethiopia is a generosity movement inspired by Ethiopia’s long-standing traditions of mutual aid, solidarity, and collective uplift. It celebrates giving through volunteerism, shared labour, resource pooling, skills sharing, and acts of community care.
As part of the global GivingTuesday movement launched in 2012, Ethiopia joins more than 90 countries that celebrate generosity as a universal force for good.
The movement draws strength from Debo and Wenfel — Ethiopian traditions where communities come together to help one another in times of need.

GivingTuesday Ethiopia envisions a nation where the spirit of Debo inspires communities to recognise the issues that require attention — from water access to education and community wellbeing — relate to them through shared humanity and cultural solidarity and respond with collective action that uplifts every household.

Aligned with Drop of Water’s mission of community-centred development, the movement seeks to strengthen Ethiopia’s traditions of mutual support and extend them into a future where giving, shared labour and collective care become core drivers of resilience, opportunity and lasting social impact.
We identify and highlight the challenges shaping Ethiopian life, including water scarcity, education access, and rural wellbeing.

With its inaugural edition launching in 2025, GivingTuesday Ethiopia begins its journey under the leadership of Drop of Water, expanding through community-led development efforts, awareness initiatives, youth activations, and partnerships grounded in Ethiopia’s deep culture of solidarity.
GivingTuesday Ethiopia is coordinated by Drop of Water, working with corporate partners, local NGOs, schools, community leaders, youth groups, and development partners.
