A Distributed Leadership Network

GivingTuesday is a movement made up of grassroots leaders who raise their hands to bring the values of GivingTuesday to communities around the world. It’s through sharing tools, providing ideas, promoting collaboration, and encouraging creativity amongst these distributed leaders that we’ve been able to build this global generosity movement. Leaders come from a variety of sectors. Some work at philanthropic associations. Others are business leaders or young people. All are united by a shared purpose: to do good.

GivingTuesday in East Africa: A Growing Movement

The East Africa Philanthropy Network (EAPN) spearheads GivingTuesday across the region, empowering each country through dedicated leaders from member organizations. This collaborative model fosters cross-learning, shared storytelling, and efficient use of data for collective growth. Since its launch in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in 2014, GivingTuesday has become the region's hallmark event for celebrating generosity and storytelling in philanthropy. Now embraced across six East African nations, the movement welcomed Burundi and Ethiopia to the fold in 2024, solidifying its role as a unifying force for giving and community impact.
